The idea that a person needs to drink eight glasses of water a day is just a standard to follow and is not ideal for everyone. Avoid alcohol or drink only small amounts. Limit other drinks that contain caffeine such as coffee and tea. Soft drinks and most fruit drinks contain many empty calories and should be avoided if at all possible.
