Abstrak

The purpose of this research was to determine the ability of student’s understanding of mathematical concepts through the application of scientific approach in  Matriks Algebra  learning. The scientific approach was described in the stages of observing, questioning, gathering information, associating, and communicating. This research used qualitative descriptive research method, with the subject of research was the second semester student of A1 grade of Mathematics Education Study Program FKIP Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta academic year 2016/2017 which amounted to 28 students. Research data were collected through tests and interviews. Based on the results of data analysis known that the average ability of understanding mathematical concepts with the application of scientific learning approach was in the medium category.
